Opinions are still divided as to whether or not our recent camping trip was a success.Simon says that it is still too soon for him to comment.
There is no doubt that it was soggy.
It was windy and quite cold.
There were wasps, and a bees nest.
At the end of the field was a tantrummy toddler who screamed at night.
I forgot to pack the air beds; and the towels; and the frying pan.
But......there were some nice bits too.
On Saturday we had a picnic on Aldeburgh beach and bought Dover Soles and Samphire from a fish shack. The girls ran around in their matching beach suits and played on The Shell.
On Sunday we discovered the delights of Wobbleswick for the first time.
We had another lovely picnic which was cut short by an angry black cloud. There was no time to leg it back to the car, so quick as a flash, Si reversed the picnic rug and we huddled together in a slightly hysterical bundle.
How long we sat like that I don't know - but when we finally emerged, the beach was deserted.
The afternoon was spent in trinket shops and tea shops, and when the rain subsided, crabbing.
We only had a bit of cheese from Daphne's sandwich for bait, but still managed to catch one.
Here he is.
Mum reckons it must be a French one. They're just crackers about cheese.
On Monday the sun was beating down while we packed up, so we decided to go home via Wobblers, armed with some proper bait this time.
The tide was in and the crabs were biting. It all augers well for The British Open Crabbing Championship, where the girls are confident that they are going to scoop the prizes.
All entrants get a pot of finest crab paste, so everyone's a winner really.
