Eva, who squiggles unbearably when sitting on my knee, or at the table, finally put her eel-like powers to good use in the swimming pool this afternoon.
One of our goals this summer was for Eva to learn to swim, and today she did just that.
With (quite a lot of) help from Grandma Judy, she launched off, paddling and kicking frantically across the pool, gradually sinking lower and lower until her breath ran out.
She emerged, grinning broadly, somewhere just passed the middle, which means that in the olden days, she would have got her 3 metre badge.
It was one of those bench-mark moments.
We watched proudly, but with mixed emotions - "Hooray, our little girl is growing up," swiftly followed by "Oh no! Our little girl is growing up."
Meanwhile, over in the big pool, Flossie was having a private lesson all of her very own.
At the end, she came to show us what she had learned - how to curl into a ball whilst holding your breath, which makes you bob about on the surface like a tennis ball. This quickly led to some very silly games.
What Larks, eh Pip?
